Thanks you for your interest in a Great Dane rescue. I have been doing this since 1971 so I am quite partial to the breed. They can be such a wonderful addition to your life and you can make their lives so much better.

All of the Danes on the site that come from me have been carefully screened to make sure what type home would be best for them. They have all lost at least one home for reasons that mostly have nothing to do with them, transfers, divorces, lost jobs, family problems etc. Many were “impulse items and never had any training and when they got large, which happens quickly with Danes, the owners are ready to toss them aside. I always work with them to help them have the manners they need to be loved and appreciated in a new home. That does not mean they are fully trained. They listen to me and to give them the best chance in a new home I strongly suggest you enroll them in training classes. It is a wonderful bonding experience and will teach the Dane to listen to your voice.

Many people have asked me how I can let them go when they seem so attached to me. The answer is simple math. I placed 65 Danes last year. I could not give 65 Danes all the love they need for their lifetimes. It give me great joy to take in a frighten, sometimes thin and unsure Dane and watch how they blossom into a wonderful confident Great Dane. My greatest joy comes when they go to a new home where they are loved. I love getting the pictures over the years of how well it is going and how the family cannot believe how much they love their Dane. Since I have been doing this so long I have now placed Danes with third generation rescued Dane families.

Please look at the Danes here. Just click on their names to see a picture. Remember these are not show Danes. Their adoption fees are no where near what you would pay for a show Dane either. They are large, vaccinated, on heartworm preventative, already spayed or neutered and ready to love. Please give them a chance.

Thanks for caring,

ALL of the following Danes live in their temporary, foster home, near Hattiesburg, MS, unless noted next to their names. Most Danes were rescued from different areas in Louisiana.

Click on their names to view a photo of each of them:

  1. Please meet the newest member of the GDCLA rescue group, my 10 month old granddaughter Princess Emmalee. Good Friday she went with her Mam ,that’s me, to Vicksburg to pickup a rescue from LA and back to Jackson to take one to her new home. She knows rescue is serious business.

  2. Socrates is 16-18 months old. He was turned in because his owner went to college and no one had time for him. He deservers some time to become a family member.

  3. Bonnie will be 7 months old this month black female. She was seized in a cruelty, neglect case and has really blossomed into a sweetie. She loves everyone in spite of her early treatment. She looks like a full grown lab in the picture but remember her age. She has just started to grow! She get along with everyone.

  4. The “Blue’s Sisters” and they have come a long way!  When we picked them up they were just little sacks of bones.  As you can see now they look great.  They are 6 months old, vaccinated, on Heartworm Preventative and spayed.  Going for walks is one of their favorite pastimes.  Taking all six that came in was lots of fun for us too as we were wrapped in a big dog leash spider web.  Now they do fine and look forward to their daily walks.  As of 8-6-08 there are only 3 left and they are so sweet.

  5. Homer is a Black male who was turned into a shelter in not the best shape.  His coat is looking better and better. He is now jet shiny black and is really growing.  He is 8 months old and just full of himself.

  6. This is dear sweet Jenn.  She and another Dane were thrown from the back of a truck over a 6 ft. fence topped with concertina wire.  The other Dane was much smaller and she cleared the wire.  Jenn was not so lucky.  She will always have some scars but she  is great with children and everyone else.  She is spayed, Heartworm treated and ready to go.

  7. Hugo is an owner turn in because of a major job change.  They got him and then their jobs changed to 10+ hours daily.  He was being kept in a 10X12 Kennel which was just not enough for him.  He is very cow hocked (bow legged in the rear) but the Vet thinks he could improve with regular exercise.  He is housetrained, good with children and other animals.

  8.  B.B. was found as a stray by a family that decided she was just too large for them to keep. She is still growing so we estimate her age at 10-12 months.

  9. This litter of 11 came to me at 5 weeks of age because of a home foreclosure.  They were thin and scared but have finally started to develop into individuals that are very out going.  They are AKC registered and should be very nice Danes.  The boys are being neutered first and if you are looking for a pup with cropped ears contact me right away and I can have their ears done when they are neutered or spayed.  You will be responsible for the aftercare including taping for a few weeks.  If you near a club member, I am sure they will be glad to give you tips.  All of these are scheduled to start leash training this week. They are growing like weeds and ready for new families.

PLEASE CHECK ON STATUS OF APPLICATION WEEKLY

If you would like information on one of the dogs not ready, please e-mail . We have all ages of Danes needing homes.

It is best to enroll your new pet in an obedience class no matter how well trained they are. It is a good bonding experience and will give the dog a chance to learn to respond to commands in your voice. We all speak differently.

There are other Danes available in foster care who also need homes! Please e-mail us if you're interested in fostering.
